About the Institute
The Institute of European Studies is the youngest independent unit within the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies - the largest in terms of number of students at the University of Warsaw. The Institute was established on the foundations of the Department of European Studies (which functioning from 2004 to 2012). Professor Konstanty Adam Wojtaszczyk has been the Institute's Director since 2009/2010 academic year.
The Institute of European Studies offers undergraduate and graduate (B.Soc.Sci and MSSc) as well as postgraduate studies. Out of 600 students currently studying at the Institute there is a large group of foreign students (the largest group at the University of Warsaw).
The Institute of European Studies conducts research in the area of European studies. These studies mainly focus on methodological issues in European research, legal and institutional dimension of the European Union, functioning of EU policies and cultural-historical and socio-political aspects of European integration. Currently, the Institute conducts several research projects funded by external funding. In 2009-2013, the staff of the Institute staff has published over 50 scientific monographs, nearly 150 chapters in Polish and foreign monographs and more than 60 articles in scientific journals, reviews and passwords in dictionaries. The Institute also publishes a quarterly journal "European Review".
In addition to research and development activities, the Institute carries out a number of initiatives aimed at teaching students from other Polish and foreign universities, organizing thematic lectures as a part of the "Day Without Us" initiative, courses and competitions for high school students, lectures in secondary schools, summer schools.
